Laguna Copperplate Inscription (900 CE) is the first written document found in a Philippine language The Laguna Copperplate Inscription (900 A.D.), a thin copper plate measuring less than 8 × 12 inches (20 × 30 cm) in size and inscribed with small writing that had been hammered into its surface. It shows heavy Indian cultural influence (by way of Srivijaya) present in the Philippines during the era previous to Spanish colonization in the 16th century.

The annual, roving arts festival dubbed as the Maharlika Sunrise Festival is now on its 7th incarnation. Spearheaded by the Maharlika Artists and Writers Federation (MAWF).

This year's 7th Sunrise Festival: “YlocoSining, Hidden Treasures of the North” will be held on November 24 to 28, 2010 at the Sunshine City of Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
